Back in 2002 I poked my 30 foot Nonsuch sailboat into the Erie Basin to take a look around. I was just starting a cruise that would take me up the North River and along the Erie and Oswego Canals across Lake Ontario to Kingston Canada. A lot of history inside of that basin Thanks for adding a little more detail about today's activities especially the tugs. I photgraphed one of the Brown tugs passing my boat in Hell Gate in September towing what appeared to be part of a bridge. http://biankablog.blogspot.com/2009/09/electric-sailboat-cruise-to-new-york_26.html#links
Wonder if it wound up in the basin? I have heard they sell a lot of bridges in Brooklyn. I enjoy your blog always something interesting .

Don, I don't have a good color image of the E/L boats. I believe they were a deep burgundy rather than red. I'll see what I can dig up when I get the chance.

Hi
I enjoyed your website.
I am in the process of building a 1:24 Scale Erie Lackawanna Railroad tug.
I am trying to find the colors of the wheel house wheel house roof and the lower cabin and its roof.
As a child I remember the wheel house was not red but a darker color
Can you please please verify and can you give me an idea of what the color was?
Thankyou for your help

Yes, good post. When you see the mate gesturing to nobody you know they don't have situational awareness. No personal cell phones while working.

Absolutely agree. I just received my passport sized Merchant Mariner Credential the other day. While I am proud of my accomplishment in finally being able to achieve it. I too would like to have a certificate that I could hang in the cabin of my boat even if I had to pay extra money to get it.
